Epigram
Bina Shah started her novel with the pronunciation of the word “Sindh” in an epigram which this word also pronounced as ‘Sind”. Further she explains the geographical location of Sindh Balochistan in is west-north, Panjab in the north, Indian states Gujrat and Rajasthan in the east, and the Arabian Sea in the south. She explains that the Indus River Delta is an essential part of Sindh which is why it is also known as Sindhu River/Sindhu Naddi. Karachi became the capital city of Sindh in 1936. She presented a few picked lines from the book “Sindh and the river that inhabit the valley of the Indus” written by Sir Richard Burton in 1837. Sir Richard Burton says “Sindh is a new country to us and it is a really important portion of our eastern empire. It is really important because we have two reasons. Firstly we have commercial and trading approaches throughout the entire central Asia and Second, we can protect India from natural enemies. Finally at the end of the epigram she quoted Hazrat Shah Abdul Lateef Bhittai’s couplet:
Oh God! May ever You on Sindh
bestow abundance rare;
Beloved! All the world let share
Thy grace, and fruitful be.
Hazrat Shah Abdul Lateef Bhhitai, (1689–1752)
